How to rebuild a degraded RAID?

Rebuild a degraded RAID

Once a disk left RAID-1 / RAID-5 / RAID-6 / RAID-10, the RAID status will change to "degraded" from "healthy". To rebuild a degraded RAID back to healthy again, please follow the next steps.

In case one HDD failed in RAID-1 / RAID-5 / RAID-6 / RAID-10 configuration, please hot unplug failed disk, wait for 1 minute and hot plug in the new one; then RAID rebuilding will start automatically.

If the replacement is done after NAS rebooting or shutdown, administrator has to manually add spare in Admin Web GUI to start the RAID rebuilding.

x86 Firmware < 3.00.xx

  1. Login into Admin Web GUI as admin.
  2. Check new HDD as a spare and then rebuild the RAID. [Storage / RAID / Config / Check new HDD as a spare / Add spare]

x86 Firmware > 3.00.00 or x64 Firmware

  1. Login into Admin Web GUI as admin.
  2. Go to menu [Storage / RAID], select RAID set and click [Edit], check new HDD as a spare and then rebuild the RAID by click [Add spare].

OS6 (N2310/N4310/N2520/N2560/N4520/N4560)
    1. Login into Admin Web GUI as admin.
    2. RAID REBUILD: [Storage / RAID / Config / Check new HDD as a spare / Add spare]

OS7 Firmware 2.xx.xx
    1. Login into Admin Web GUI as admin.
    2. RAID REBUILD: [Control Panel / Disk & Raid / select RAID set and click Edit / Grow / check new HDD and change from gray Unused Disk to orange Chosen Disk / OK / Recover Degraded RAID / Apply]

By adding spare disk, the RAID will start to rebuild the RAID.

If the RAID status show "RAID N/A" or "RAID damaged", that means the RAID str structure was broken and not available, please contact Thecus staff by submitting a ticket.
